Message from Chief Mapu, Huni Kuin
Deep within the Amazon Rainforest in Acre, Brazil, Chief Mapu, Huni Kuin embodies a profound connection to Mother Nature and a reverence for the spiritual bonds uniting humanity. As the visionary leader of the Huni Kuin village, he stands as a unifying force across six ancestral lands, resolutely committed to safeguarding indigenous communities, rekindling lush woodlands, and nurturing the essence of the term “living being.”
As the leader of the Huni Kuin village, I bear the responsibility of preserving sacred natural healing knowledge and our spiritual heritage, deeply ingrained with nature’s wisdom.
I share these words: “Our actions ripple globally, affecting every human, regardless of age, culture, or place.”
My journey began at age 10, taking me from the forest to the city, where I discovered the power of my voice. It now channels the wisdom of indigenous communities worldwide, echoing our ancestors’ heartbeat. I returned to our ancestral lands with renewed purpose: to inspire youth, guide them back to the forest, and shape them into future leaders. Looking ahead, I envision a forest sanctuary for inter-generational knowledge exchange and skill development. Join me on this transformative journey.
With heartfelt gratitude and honor, I say: “Haux Haux,” a sacred phrase in Huni Kuin culture, expressing deep appreciation.
Chief Mapu, Huni Kuin
WHO IS CHIEF MAPU HUNI KUI ? MOVED BY A SENSE OF TOGERTHNESS & UNITY
Forest and Mother Nature are his home, at the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, in the state of Acre, Brazil. At 29 years old, he is the leader of the Huni Kuin village, reuniting many families and people across six lands. Along with Mother Nature’s forces and powers, all his actions are driven by his determination to protect indigenous people, to reforest and restore Nature, while kee- ping alive the spiritual, cultural and deep knowledge of natural healing plants passed on through generations.
The spirit of a chief at the head of a village that sees the world and humanity as one with no borders – whether physical emotional, intellectual or spiritual.
“NATURE IS GLOBAL AND EVERY SINGLE STEP WE TAKE AROUND THE WORLD HAS A GLOBAL IMPACT TOO.NATURE THEREFORE CONCERNS EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING, FROM EVERY AGE, EVERY CULTURE, EVERY PLACE.”
At 10 years old, he went to the city, where he learned that his voice can be heard, sharing the wisdom and knowledge of indigenous people around the world, while keeping the youth within the communities, bringing them back to the forest and educating them to becoming the leaders of tomorrow. In his life mission, Chief Mapu knows the importance of the collective spirit, building on trustful partnerships to protect social rights, free the Earth and preserve Nature. It’s a global movement. Nature doesn’t have a specific geolocation, it is the world itself.
“MY FAVORITE WORD IS HAUX HAUX, A SACRED WORD FOR THE HUNI KUIN PEOPLE WHICH ENCOMPASSES DIFFERENT MEANINGS OF DEEP GRATITUDE, HONORING, GREETING AND EXPRESSING THANKS.”
Mapu’s dream is to create a center for gathering, sharing and passing on skills and knowledge to upcoming generations, right at the heart of the forest. A place destined to become an educational center for youth, for good and for Nature.
“I AM DRIVEN BY A SENSE OF TOGETHERNESS AND UNITY”.
