The Better World Fund honnors Brasil

Amazonîa Fund Alliance Program officially launched with a wonderfully impactful Gala during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, co-hosted by Better World Fund. The event, held at the historic Carlton Hotel, boasted a remarkable crowd, including prominent Indigenous leaders and a spectacular line-up of artists, as well as an at-capacity crowd of enthusiastic advocates for Amazonîa.

We are grateful for impressive Brazilian contingency that attended the event. Sônia Guajajara, Minister of the Indigenous People, Celia Xákriaba, Member of the Chamber of Deputy, and Chief Mapu were all honored for their heroic efforts to protect Indigenous communities and land. Other distinguished guests included Cacique Roani Metuktire, Cacique Tapi Yawalapati, Osmar Ribiero de Almeida Júnior, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development and Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger, Luis Otavio Palhari, President of BFUCA and Carlo Linkevieius Pereira, CEO of UN Global Compact Network.

The event was hosted by actress Nadia Farès and musician Ghassan Yammine. Attendees were serenaded with performances by Arisa and United Choirs and the evening also included Capoeira performance by Amazonîa the Space of Life. Awards for commitment to humanity included Arisa, Liz MccComb, Alic Chen, Larine Gros, Tom Volf, Ahmad Jamal, Enzo De Taranto and Alok Petrillo. Celebrity appearances by committed creatives included Leonardo DeCaprio, Fisher Stevens, Georges Tomb, Joanna Plasfsky, Swan Sit, Richard Orlinski, Scottie Thompson and Alvarao Nuñez among others. The auction featured a grand collection of contemporary art and photography, as well as works by Indigenous artists.

Amazonîa Fund Alliance Program looks forward to continuing our efforts and supporting our partners for a sustainable future and the preservation of Indigenous culture and lands in Brazil.
